Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (475ml) Whole Milk
  • 2 ounces (55g) Dark Chocolate (at least 70% cacao), chopped
  • 1/4 cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (or more, to taste)
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: Whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, cinnamon sticks for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In the saucepan, combine milk, chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and salt.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Do not boil.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes, whisking occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Taste the hot chocolate and adjust sweetness or spice level to your liking.
  5. Pour into mugs and garnish with whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, or a cinnamon stick, if desired. Serve immediately.
