Ingredients:
- 2 cups grated russet potatoes (about 2 medium potatoes)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (or cooking spray for a lighter option)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Potatoes: Peel the russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth, twist it closed, and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. This step is crucial for achieving crispy hash browns.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the drained grated potatoes, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add olive oil to help with crispiness during cooking.
- Form Patties: Using your hands or an ice cream scoop, shape the mixture into round patties about 3 inches in diameter and roughly half an inch thick.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes while you prepare the patties.
- Arrange Patties in Air Fryer: Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with a little oil to prevent sticking. Place the hash brown patties in a single layer in the basket; avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking (you may need to cook them in batches).
- Cook Hash Brown Patties: Cook at 400°F (200°C) for approximately 12–15 minutes until golden brown and crispy on one side. After about halfway through cooking time (around minute seven), flip each patty over gently using tongs or a spatula.
- Check Doneness & Serve: Once cooked to your desired level of crispiness, remove from air fryer and serve immediately while hot.
