Ingredients:
- 1 (14-ounce) package extra-firm tofu, pressed (approx. 400g)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (15ml)
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like canola or vegetable) (15ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (1.5ml)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30ml)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (15ml)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (15ml)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (5ml)
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger (5ml)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (1 clove)
Instructions:
- Press the tofu for at least 15 minutes, ideally 30 minutes, to remove excess water. This is crucial for crispy tofu.
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup (or honey), sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic.
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes or triangles.
- Toss the tofu pieces with the marinade in a bowl, ensuring they are evenly coated. Marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to an hour in the refrigerator.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- In a separate bowl, gently toss the marinated tofu with cornstarch, neutral oil, salt, and pepper.
- Arrange the tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring there is space between the pieces. Cook for 10 minutes.
- Flip the tofu and cook for another 5-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them, as air fryers can vary!
- Remove the tofu from the air fryer and serve immediately.
