Ingredients:

  • 42 oz apple pie filling
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 15.25 oz yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread the apple pie filling into an even layer at the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  3. Stir the ground cinnamon and nutmeg directly into the filling. Drizzle the caramel sauce in a grid pattern over the apples.
  4. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apples. Use the back of a spoon to level it, ensuring you do not stir the layers.
  5. Grate the cold butter over the top or place very thin, overlapping slices to cover the surface completely like shingles to ensure 100% hydration of the mix.
  6. Top the butter layer with light brown sugar and chopped pecans.
  7. Place in the center of the oven and bake for 45–50 minutes until the filling is bubbling and the crust is a deep mahogany gold.
