Ingredients:
- 42 oz apple pie filling
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 15.25 oz yellow cake mix
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread the apple pie filling into an even layer at the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Stir the ground cinnamon and nutmeg directly into the filling. Drizzle the caramel sauce in a grid pattern over the apples.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apples. Use the back of a spoon to level it, ensuring you do not stir the layers.
- Grate the cold butter over the top or place very thin, overlapping slices to cover the surface completely like shingles to ensure 100% hydration of the mix.
- Top the butter layer with light brown sugar and chopped pecans.
- Place in the center of the oven and bake for 45–50 minutes until the filling is bubbling and the crust is a deep mahogany gold.
