Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon (12g) sugar
- 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
- 2 teaspoons (8g) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup (120ml) warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 1 large (50g) egg
- 3 tablespoons (42g) unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup (130g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon (1.5g) vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, activate yeast in warm milk and sugar for 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Add the activated yeast, egg, and melted butter to the flour mixture.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out onto a floured surface.
- Cut dough into 6 equal pieces; flatten each piece slightly.
- Place chocolate chips in the center of each piece, then fold over and seal the edges to form a ball.
- Place filled dough balls seam-side down on a lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top and cooked through.
- Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and enjoy warm.
