Ingredients:

  • 1 (15.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix (432g)
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling (595g)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted (113g)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (85g)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (30g) (optional)
  • 1 tsp almond extract (5ml) (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  3. Spread cherry pie filling evenly in the prepared pan.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix over the cherry pie filling.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the cake mix. Then sprinkle the nuts (if using).
  6. Pour melted butter evenly over the cake mix and chocolate chips. Make sure everything is covered evenly.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbling.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
