Ingredients:
- 4 bratwurst sausages (approximately 1 pound or 450 g)
- 4 hoagie rolls or crusty baguettes
- 1 cup sauerkraut, drained and warmed (approximately 150 g)
- 1 whole head of garlic
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Mustard (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the top off the garlic head to expose cloves. Drizzle olive oil over the exposed cloves, then wrap in foil. Roast garlic in the oven for 30-35 minutes, until soft and caramelized.
- Increase oven heat to broil. Place bratwurst on a broiler-safe pan or grill rack. Broil for approximately 6-8 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 160°F or 70°C).
- Slice the hoagie rolls open. Squeeze out roasted garlic into a small bowl and mash with a fork. Spread roasted garlic evenly on the inside of rolls. Place bratwurst in the rolls and top with warmed sauerkraut. Add mustard if desired.
- Garnish with fresh parsley, if using, and serve immediately.
