Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups buttercream frosting
  • Assorted colored sprinkles or edible confetti
  • Marzipan or fondant for football decorations
  • Optional: food coloring for frosting

Instructions:

  1. Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour the cake pans to prevent sticking.
  3. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  4. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–5 minutes).
  5. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually mix in the flour mixture and milk until smooth.
  7. Divide batter evenly among prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  9. Heat cream in a saucepan until simmering; pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes and then stir until smooth.
  10. Level the cakes, layer with frosting and chocolate ganache between each layer. Frost the outside of the cake.
  11. Use buttercream frosting and colorful decorations to create a game day theme.
