Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups buttercream frosting
- Assorted colored sprinkles or edible confetti
- Marzipan or fondant for football decorations
- Optional: food coloring for frosting
Instructions:
- Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour the cake pans to prevent sticking.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–5 minutes).
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the flour mixture and milk until smooth.
- Divide batter evenly among prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
- Heat cream in a saucepan until simmering; pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes and then stir until smooth.
- Level the cakes, layer with frosting and chocolate ganache between each layer. Frost the outside of the cake.
- Use buttercream frosting and colorful decorations to create a game day theme.
