Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ oz (75 ml) gin (preferably London Dry)
  • ½ oz (15 ml) dry vermouth
  • Ice cubes (for chilling)
  • Lemon twist or green olives (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Chill the glass: Fill the martini glass with ice water and set aside.
  2. Prepare the mixing vessel: If using a cocktail shaker, fill it halfway with ice. If using a mixing glass, ensure it is clean and dry.
  3. Measure the ingredients: Pour 2 ½ oz gin and ½ oz dry vermouth into the shaker or mixing glass.
  4. Combine: Stir or shake the mixture. For a shaken martini, shake vigorously for about 15 seconds; for a stirred martini, stir gently for about 30 seconds.
  5. Strain: Empty the ice water from the chilled martini glass. Use a cocktail strainer to pour the mixed drink into the glass.
  6. Garnish: Add a lemon twist or green olive to the martini as a garnish.
