Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened (226g)
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (1g) (optional)
- Optional Sweet: 2 tablespoons honey (42g), 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (1g), pinch of nutmeg
- Optional Savory: 2 cloves garlic, minced (6g), 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh herbs (e.g., parsley, chives, thyme) (6g), 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (1g)
- Optional Spicy: 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (1g), 1 tablespoon honey (21g)
Instructions:
- Allow the butter to sit at room temperature for 1-2 hours until very soft but not melted. It should be easily dented with your finger.
- Place the softened butter and salt (if using) in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment (or use a hand mixer). Beat on medium speed for 3-5 minutes, or until the butter is light and fluffy.
- If adding flavourings, add them now. Continue to whip on low speed for another minute, until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Transfer the whipped butter to an airtight container. While not strictly necessary, chilling for 30 minutes can help the flavors meld.
- Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature slightly before serving for the best texture.
