Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (1 stick/113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1-2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk (whole milk or 2% milk)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar to the cream cheese mixture, beating on low speed at first, then increase speed to medium once incorporated.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and salt to the frosting. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or tanginess as needed. Add more powdered sugar for sweetness or lemon juice for tang.
  6. Generously frost slightly cooled cinnamon buns with the cream cheese frosting. Serve immediately.
