Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (90g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (150g) chopped walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the baking pan.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and add both sugars, stirring until combined.
  3. Incorporate eggs one at a time, then whisk in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  5. Fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Add walnuts, if using.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Prepare the ganache: In a saucepan, heat cream until simmering, then pour over chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth.
  9. Spread ganache over brownie layer and allow to cool before slicing.
