Ingredients:

  • 2 cups mixed berries (e.g., strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Wash and hull any strawberries; leave blueberries and raspberries whole.
  2. In a medium saucepan, mix the berries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, cinnamon, and water.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer.
  4. As the berries begin to break down, gently stir with a wooden spoon to combine and prevent sticking.
  5. Allow to simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the berries are soft and the mixture thickens slightly.
  6. Remove from heat and let the compote cool at room temperature before transferring to a jar.
  7. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
