Ingredients:
- 2 cups mixed berries (e.g., strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
- Wash and hull any strawberries; leave blueberries and raspberries whole.
- In a medium saucepan, mix the berries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, cinnamon, and water.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer.
- As the berries begin to break down, gently stir with a wooden spoon to combine and prevent sticking.
- Allow to simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the berries are soft and the mixture thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and let the compote cool at room temperature before transferring to a jar.
- Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
