Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) whole milk or buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (150g) sultanas (golden raisins)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  4. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. In another bowl, combine milk and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, add sultanas, and stir until just combined.
  7. Turn dough onto a floured surface, knead gently 2-3 times, and pat into a 1-inch thick round. Cut into wedges or circles.
  8. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack before serving.
