Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, full-fat, softened
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) milk or cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  2. Add vanilla and salt, then mix well.
  3. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until incorporated.
  4. Add milk or cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the icing reaches your desired consistency. It should be smooth and easily spreadable.
  5. Taste the icing and adjust sweetness or tanginess as needed. Add more powdered sugar for sweetness or a tiny splash of lemon juice for tang.
  6. Generously spread the icing over warm cinnamon buns. Serve immediately.
