Ingredients:

  • 6 cups mixed fall fruit (apples, pears, peaches), peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

Instructions:

  1. Toss the sliced fruit with granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and lemon juice directly in a 9x9 inch baking dish. Spread the mixture evenly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, dark brown sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the chilled, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized lumps.
  4. Scatter the oat topping evenly over the fruit without pressing it down.
  5. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40–45 minutes until the topping is deep mahogany-gold and the fruit juices are bubbling thicky around the edges.
