Ingredients:
- 1 bottle of red wine (e.g., Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon) - 750 mL
- 1 orange, sliced, plus additional wedges for garnish
- 8 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise (optional)
- ¼ cup of honey or to taste (60 mL)
- 1 cup of water (240 mL)
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, add the red wine, orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, honey, and water.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently until the honey has dissolved.
- Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Allow the mixture to cook for about 20 minutes, letting the flavors meld.
- Remove from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove spices and fruit.
- Serve warm in heatproof mugs, garnished with additional orange wedges and a cinnamon stick if desired.
