Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe plantains (approximately 500g)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (120ml, for frying)
  • Pinch of salt (optional for seasoning)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the plantains by peeling them, cutting off the ends, and making a lengthwise slit in the skin. Slice the plantains into 1-inch thick diagonal pieces.
  2. In a large frying pan, pour vegetable oil to a depth of about ½ inch and heat until it shimmers (approximately 350°F or 175°C).
  3. Add the plantain slices to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried plantains from the oil, draining them on paper towels and sprinkling with a pinch of salt if desired.
  5. Place the platanos fritos on a serving plate and enjoy them warm.
