Ingredients:

  • 1 package (3.9 oz / 110g) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups (473 ml) whole milk
  • 1/4 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 package (15.35 oz / 435g) chocolate sandwich cookies, filling removed
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) melted unsalted butter (optional)
  • 1 package (4 oz / 113g) gummy worms
  • 6-12 gummy flowers or other candy decorations (optional)
  • Fresh mint sprigs (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Whisk together pudding mix, cocoa powder, sugar and milk in a saucepan. Cook according to package directions (usually bringing to a simmer and cooking for 1-2 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Alternatively prepare pudding according to package directions.
  2. Pour pudding into a bowl, cover with plastic wrap (pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming), and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until chilled.
  3. Place chocolate sandwich cookies (without filling) in a food processor and pulse until finely ground. Alternatively, place in a ziplock bag and crush with a rolling pin. If desired, mix in the melted butter for added flavor.
  4. In each cup, layer crushed cookies, followed by pudding. Repeat layers, ending with a layer of crushed cookies on top to resemble dirt.
  5. Arrange gummy worms on top of the cookie dirt. Add gummy flowers or other candy decorations as desired. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs (optional).
  6. Serve the dirt cups immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
