Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 blend preferred)
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp (5 g) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) salt
  • 1/4 tsp (1 g) black pepper
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns
  • 1 cup (30 g) arugula or spinach
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup (240 g) sliced tomatoes
  • Optional condiments (e.g., mayo, mustard, or balsamic glaze)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, blue cheese, walnuts, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent bulging while cooking.
  3. Place the patties on a plate, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Heat the grill to medium-high.
  5. Place the patties on the grill and cook for 5-7 minutes on one side. Flip and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. During the last 2 minutes of cooking, place the buns face down on the grill to toast.
  7. Layer arugula or spinach, tomato slices, and red onion on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place the grilled patty on top and add any desired condiments. Finish with the top half of the bun.
