Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz / 796 g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup vegetable or chicken broth
  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and mix in the tomato paste. Stir until well combined.
  4. Add sugar, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly.
  5. Pour in the broth, bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  6. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed, adding more salt or herbs as desired.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving with gołąbki.
