Ingredients:
- 500 g blackcurrants (fresh or frozen)
- 250 g granulated sugar (1 ¼ cups)
- 500 ml vodka (or 190-proof neutral spirit) (2 cups)
- 250 ml water (1 cup)
- 1 tsp lemon zest (optional for extra flavor)
Instructions:
- Clean the blackcurrants, removing any stems and leaves. Optionally, lightly crush to release juices.
- In a fermentation jar, combine blackcurrants, sugar, and vodka.
- Seal the jar tightly and let it sit in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks. Stir the mixture gently every few days, ensuring sugar dissolves.
- After the infusion period, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean container to remove solids.
- Stir in the water to balance the liqueur's sweetness and alcohol levels.
- Use a funnel to pour the liqueur into dark glass bottles. Seal tightly.
