Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened (227g)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar (200g)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100g)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5g)
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (2g)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves (1g)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice (1g)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (1g)
  • ½ cup honey (170g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5g)
  • 8 ounces dark rum (240 ml)
  • 8 cups boiling water (1.9 liters)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Stir in the honey and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Heat the water or milk in a saucepan until boiling.
  6. Place 1-2 tablespoons of the spiced butter batter into each mug.
  7. Add 1 ounce (30 ml) of dark rum to each mug.
  8. Pour the boiling water or hot milk over the batter and rum.
  9. Stir well until the butter batter is completely dissolved. Serve immediately.
