Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp (15 g) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 g) smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp (5 g) ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp (2 g) black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp (2 g) salt
  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak
  • Fresh herbs (like parsley or cilantro) for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, brown sugar, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Place flank steak in a Ziplock bag or shallow dish, pour marinade over, and seal. Marinate for at least 30 minutes in the fridge (up to overnight for deeper flavor).
  3. Heat grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Remove steak from marinade and discard excess marinade. Grill for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare.
  5. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Slice against the grain into thin strips, garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve.
