Ingredients:
- 1 (9-inch) prepared pie crust, unbaked
- 1 1/4 cups (150g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting (homemade option)
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) salt (homemade option)
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, chilled and cubed (homemade option)
- 3-5 tablespoons (45-75ml) ice water (homemade option)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick, 113g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) bourbon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) salt
- 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup (113g) chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions:
- Prepare the Crust: If using store-bought, unroll and place in the pie plate. If homemade, combine flour and salt, cut in butter, add ice water. Chill for 30 minutes. Roll out and place in pie plate.
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix the Wet Ingredients: Whisk together melted butter, sugar, eggs, bourbon (if using), and vanilla extract.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: Whisk together flour and salt in a separate bowl.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, whisking until just combined.
- Add the Good Stuff: Stir in chocolate chips and chopped nuts.
- Pour into Crust: Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
- Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the filling is set but still slightly gooey. If the crust is browning too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
- Cool: Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack before slicing. This allows the filling to set properly.
