Ingredients:

  • 2 inches (5cm) fresh ginger root, peeled and thinly sliced (about 2 tablespoons or 30ml sliced)
  • 2 cups (475ml) water
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon (15ml) honey, agave, or maple syrup (or to taste)
  • Optional: 1 lemon or lime wedge

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ginger: Peel the ginger root using a spoon or vegetable peeler. Thinly slice the ginger into coins. (Thinner slices = more flavour released!)
  2. Simmer the Ginger: Combine the sliced ginger and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. Brew the Tea: Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the ginger simmer for 10-15 minutes. (Longer simmering = stronger flavour.)
  4. Strain and Serve: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Strain the tea through a tea strainer or fine-mesh sieve into a mug.
  5. Sweeten and Garnish (Optional): Stir in honey, agave, or maple syrup to taste. Squeeze in a lemon or lime wedge for added flavour and Vitamin C. Enjoy! Now you know how do you make fresh ginger root tea!
