- 1 ½ cups (180g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder

- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240g) unsweetened applesauce
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour the cake pan to prevent sticking.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.
- Mix in the applesauce and vanilla extract until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
