Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
- 2 teaspoons (7g) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon (6g) granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups (300g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil, plus more for greasing
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
Instructions:
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and optional garlic powder and oregano.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary, a tablespoon at a time.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Roll or stretch each piece into a 12-inch circle.
- Place dough onto pizza stone or baking sheet that is lightly dusted with cornmeal.
- Add your favourite toppings. Bake in a preheated oven at 450°F (232°C) for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the pizza cool slightly before slicing and serving.
