Ingredients:

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 15g granulated sugar
  • 6g fine sea salt
  • 10g baking powder
  • 5g baking soda
  • 350ml full-fat buttermilk
  • 45g unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 large egg

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda for at least 30 seconds to ensure even distribution of leavening agents.
  3. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour in the buttermilk, melted butter, and egg.
  4. Using a silicone spatula, gently fold the flour into the liquid reactants. Stop the moment no dry streaks remain; the dough should be shaggy and thick.
  5. Transfer the dough to the prepared loaf pan without pressing down. Use a sharp knife to slash a 1-inch deep expansion joint down the center of the loaf.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes or until the crust is mahogany-colored and the internal temperature reaches 190°F. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
