Ingredients:
- 3 cups (375g) bread flour
- 1 teaspoon (5g) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- 1 tablespoon (12g) sugar
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well and add the olive oil and yeast mixture.
- Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Punch down the risen dough. Divide into 6 equal portions and shape into loaves.
- Place loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Cover and rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Bake loaves for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
