Ingredients:

  • 3 cups (375g) bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
  • 1 cup (240ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well and add the olive oil and yeast mixture.
  3. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the risen dough. Divide into 6 equal portions and shape into loaves.
  7. Place loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Cover and rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  9. Bake loaves for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
