Ingredients:
- 4 bratwurst sausages (approximately 4 oz each)
- 4 hoagie rolls or brat buns
- 1 cup sauerkraut (drained)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for grilling)
- 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (for onions)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and sliced onions, sauté until softened. Add apple cider vinegar; cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until slightly caramelized.
- Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Place bratwurst on the grill; cook for about 7-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked (internal temperature reaches 160°F).
- During the last few minutes of grilling, place hoagie rolls on the grill, cut side down, to toast lightly.
- Spread a small amount of Dijon mustard on the toasted roll (optional). Place the grilled bratwurst on the roll; top with a generous scoop of sauerkraut and sautéed onions. Garnish with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of black pepper.
- Serve immediately while warm.
