Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450 g) smoked herring fillets
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) capers, rinsed and chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Crusty bread or crackers
  • Fresh cucumber slices
  • Fresh dill sprigs for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt and mayonnaise (if using). Whisk in the lemon juice and zest until smooth. Stir in the chopped dill and capers (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Arrange the smoked herring fillets on a serving platter. Accentuate the presentation with cucumber slices and fresh dill sprigs.
  3. Drizzle the lemon-dill sauce over the smoked herring or serve it on the side. Serve with crusty bread or crackers.
