Ingredients:

  • 4 large ripe bananas, sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a 9x9 inch baking dish, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until the mixture resembles wet sand.
  3. Fold in the sliced bananas and lemon juice, spreading them evenly across the bottom of the dish.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Slowly stir in the milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until the batter is smooth, taking care not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter gently over the banana mixture without stirring the layers together.
  7. Bake on the center rack for 40–45 minutes, or until the edges are deep mahogany brown and the center is set.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
