Ingredients:

  • 2 (8 oz / 225g) pieces of Naan or pre-made flatbread
  • 1/2 lb (225g) spicy Italian sausage (bulk/ground)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup (25g) grated Asiago or Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup (60g) thinly sliced red onion
  • 1/2 cup (75g) diced red bell pepper
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) tomato pesto or thick pizza sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil
  • 1 tsp (5ml) honey or hot honey
  • 1 tbsp (4g) fresh parsley, chopped
  • Red pepper flakes to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the spicy Italian sausage, breaking it into small crumbles with a spatula. Cook until browned and edges are crisp (5–7 minutes), then drain excess grease.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place flatbreads on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Spread a thin, even layer of tomato pesto or pizza sauce across each flatbread base.
  4. Evenly distribute the browned sausage, sliced red onions, and diced bell peppers over the sauce.
  5. Top with shredded mozzarella and grated Asiago cheese.
  6. Bake on the center rack for 8–12 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and browned in spots and the edges of the flatbread are deep golden mahogany.
  7. Remove from oven and let rest for 2 minutes. Drizzle with honey and garnish with chopped fresh parsley and red pepper flakes before slicing.
