Ingredients:
- 2 (8 oz / 225g) pieces of Naan or pre-made flatbread
- 1/2 lb (225g) spicy Italian sausage (bulk/ground)
- 1/2 cup (115g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup (25g) grated Asiago or Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup (60g) thinly sliced red onion
- 1/2 cup (75g) diced red bell pepper
- 2 tbsp (30ml) tomato pesto or thick pizza sauce
- 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil
- 1 tsp (5ml) honey or hot honey
- 1 tbsp (4g) fresh parsley, chopped
- Red pepper flakes to taste
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the spicy Italian sausage, breaking it into small crumbles with a spatula. Cook until browned and edges are crisp (5–7 minutes), then drain excess grease.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place flatbreads on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Spread a thin, even layer of tomato pesto or pizza sauce across each flatbread base.
- Evenly distribute the browned sausage, sliced red onions, and diced bell peppers over the sauce.
- Top with shredded mozzarella and grated Asiago cheese.
- Bake on the center rack for 8–12 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and browned in spots and the edges of the flatbread are deep golden mahogany.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 2 minutes. Drizzle with honey and garnish with chopped fresh parsley and red pepper flakes before slicing.
