Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe plantains (yellow with some black spots) – about 900 grams
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (28 grams) or coconut oil (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (12 grams) for extra sweetness (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Peel the plantains and cut them into ½-inch thick diagonal slices.
  2. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add butter or coconut oil.
  3. Add plantain slices to the skillet in a single layer without overcrowding.
  4. Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  5. Optional: Sprinkle with brown sugar during the last minute of cooking for additional caramelization.
  6. Season with a pinch of salt to taste and transfer the plátanos maduros to a serving platter.
