Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240ml) water, lukewarm (about 105-115°F / 40-46°C)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) vegetable oil (like canola or sunflower)
  • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting if needed
  • 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons (9g) salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (7g) active dry yeast (one standard packet)

Instructions:

  1. Pour the lukewarm water and vegetable oil into the bread machine pan.
  2. Carefully add the flour, sugar, and salt to the pan. Make a small well in the center of the flour.
  3. Pour the active dry yeast into the well in the flour.
  4. Place the bread machine pan into the machine. Select the Basic or White Bread setting, crust color (medium is a good starting point!), and loaf size (usually 1.5-2 lb).
  5. Press the start button and let the bread machine do its thing!
  6. After about 10-15 minutes, check the dough. If it seems too dry (forming a ball that isn't cohesive), add a tablespoon of water at a time. If it seems too wet (very sticky), add a tablespoon of flour at a time.
  7. Once the bread machine cycle is complete, carefully remove the pan (using oven mitts!). Let the bread cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
