Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) freshly brewed espresso (or very strong coffee)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) whole milk (or your preferred milk alternative)
  • Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare your espresso according to your chosen method.
  2. Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat, being careful not to scald it. Alternatively, microwave it briefly until hot (but not boiling!).
  3. Remove the milk from the heat and use your chosen method (whisk, electric frother, French press) to create a thick, stable foam. Aim for microfoam – tiny, velvety bubbles.
  4. Pour the espresso into your mug. Gently spoon the frothed milk on top, holding back some of the foam.
  5. Spoon the remaining foam on top to create a thick layer.
  6. Dust with cocoa powder or sprinkle with chocolate shavings (optional).
  7. Enjoy immediately!
