Ingredients:
- 1 bagel, your choice (everything, plain, sesame) (approximately 100g)
- 1 tablespoon butter (US) / 15g butter (Metric), unsalted, softened (optional, for toasting)
- 2 ounces (US) / 57g (Metric) cream cheese, full-fat, softened
- 1 tablespoon (US) / 15 ml (Metric) milk or cream (optional, for thinning)
- 1/4 teaspoon (US) / 1.2ml (Metric) lemon juice
- 3 ounces (US) / 85g (Metric) lox, thinly sliced
- 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 medium tomato, sliced
- 1 tablespoon (US) / 15 ml (Metric) capers, drained
- Optional: Fresh dill sprigs, cracked black pepper
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine softened cream cheese, milk/cream (if using), and lemon juice. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Slice the bagel horizontally. Toast in a toaster or toaster oven until golden brown. Alternatively, lightly butter the cut sides and toast in a frying pan over medium heat until golden.
- Spread the prepared schmear generously on both halves of the toasted bagel.
- Arrange the lox slices on top of the cream cheese.
- Layer the red onion slices, tomato slices, and capers over the lox. Sprinkle with fresh dill (if using) and cracked black pepper.
- Serve Immediately. Enjoy your masterpiece!
