Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks/227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk or heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (1/8 teaspoon)

Instructions:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the softened butter on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition until incorporated.
  3. Add the milk (or cream), vanilla extract, and salt. Mix on medium speed until smooth and creamy.
  4. If the frosting is too thick, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar, one tablespoon at a time.
  5. Continue to beat the frosting on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes, until light and airy.
