Ingredients:
- 1 package (12 rolls) Soft Dinner Rolls (e.g., sweet Hawaiian style rolls)
- 1/2 lb Deli Ham (Thinly sliced)
- 8 oz Swiss or Gruyère Cheese (Sliced)
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter (Melted)
- 1 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/2 tsp Dried Minced Onion or Powder
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tbsp Poppy Seeds (Optional)
- Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper (To Taste)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch standard baking dish.
- Using a long serrated knife, slice the entire block of rolls horizontally, separating the top half from the bottom half completely while keeping the rolls intact as a single block.
- Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish. Layer half the cheese first, followed by the ham, and then the remaining cheese over the ham.
- Place the top half of the rolls back over the filling, creating the full block again.
- In a small saucepan or microwave, melt the unsalted butter. Whisk in the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, dried onion, garlic powder, poppy seeds, and a pinch of black pepper until thoroughly combined.
- Gently pour the butter glaze evenly over the tops of the rolls. Use a pastry brush to ensure the butter glaze drips down the sides and seeps into the seams between the rolls.
- Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil. Let the rolls rest at room temperature for 15 minutes. This step is crucial for flavor absorption and preventing the rolls from drying out.
- Place the covered dish into the preheated oven. Bake for 10 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for another 8–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling, and the tops are golden brown and slightly crisp.
- Remove from the oven. Let the rolls rest in the dish for 5 minutes before slicing them along their pre-cut seams. Serve immediately while piping hot.
