Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) ketchup
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  3. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly and the flavors meld.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning and heat level, if necessary (add more hot sauce for extra spice).
  5. Once cooked, remove the sauce from heat, let it cool, then transfer it to an airtight container for storage.
