Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240 ml) ketchup
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup (50 g) packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) onion powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) black pepper
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Allow the sauce to simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly and the flavors meld.
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning and heat level, if necessary (add more hot sauce for extra spice).
- Once cooked, remove the sauce from heat, let it cool, then transfer it to an airtight container for storage.
