Ingredients:
- 1 cup dark soy sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 tablespoon chili oil (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine dark soy sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar.
- Place over medium heat and whisk until the sugar dissolves.
- Stir in minced garlic, minced ginger, and sesame oil.
- Add Chinese five-spice powder, chili oil, and white pepper.
- Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and let it cool; the sauce will thicken as it cools.
- Transfer to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
