Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter
  • 8 oz (227 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) heavy cream (optional, for texture)

Instructions:

  1. Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk continuously until the butter foams, then turns golden brown and smells nutty (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat.
  3. Pour the browned butter into a bowl and let cool to room temperature, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  5. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, whisking until combined.
  6. Mix in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  7. Slowly drizzle the cooled brown butter into the cream cheese mixture, beating until smooth and creamy.
  8. If using, add the heavy cream to achieve a lighter texture.
  9. Transfer the whipped cream cheese to the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set.
  10. Enjoy as a frosting or spread!
