Ingredients:

  • 1 kg fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange liqueur (optional) or fresh orange juice
  • 237 ml heavy cream, cold
  • 118 ml Mexican crema, sour cream, or creme fraiche
  • 118 ml sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Gently wash and hull the strawberries. Slice them to your desired thickness. Place the sliced strawberries in a large bowl.
  2. Sprinkle the strawberries with sugar and the orange liqueur (or juice, if using). Gently toss to combine. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the heavy cream, Mexican crema (or sour cream), sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt.
  4. Using a whisk or electric mixer, whip the cream mixture until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.
  5. Divide the macerated strawberries among serving dishes or glasses. Spoon the whipped cream mixture over the strawberries.
  6. For best results, chill the assembled Fresas con Crema for at least 15 minutes before serving. Serve immediately if desired.
