Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450 grams) fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon (15 mL) olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 grams) sea salt
  • 1 lemon, juiced (about 2 tablespoons or 30 mL)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Trim ends off green beans and rinse under cold water.
  2. Fill a large pot with water (about 1 inch) and bring to a boil. Place a steamer basket or colander in the pot, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water.
  3. Add green beans to the steamer basket, cover with a lid. Steam for 5 minutes or until bright green and tender-crisp.
  4. Carefully remove beans with tongs or a slotted spoon. Toss in olive oil, sea salt, lemon juice, and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve immediately; consider garnishing with lemon zest for added flavor.
