Ingredients:

  • 4 ears fresh sweetcorn, husks and silk removed
  • Water, for steaming (about 2 cups)
  • Optional: Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Unsalted butter, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Shuck the corn, removing the husks and silk completely. Rinse the corn under cold water.
  2. Pour about 2 cups of water into the large pot. Ensure the water level is below the bottom of the steamer basket.
  3. Insert the steamer basket into the pot, ensuring it sits above the water level.
  4. Place the corn cobs in the steamer basket in a single layer if possible. If you need to stack them slightly, that’s okay.
  5. Cover the pot with the lid. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and steam for 8-10 minutes, or until the kernels are tender and bright yellow.
  6. Carefully remove one cob with tongs. Test a kernel with a fork to check for doneness.
  7. Remove the corn from the pot using tongs. Serve hot with butter, salt, pepper, and your favourite toppings.
