Ingredients:
- 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith Apples
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup cold, cubed unsalted butter
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour. Toss gently until every slice is evenly coated in the spice mixture.
- Pour the apple mixture into a 9x9 inch baking dish, spreading the apples evenly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or fingertips to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with a few pea-sized chunks remaining.
- Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the apples without pressing down.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40–45 minutes, or until fruit juices bubble up the sides and the topping is deep mahogany-gold.
- Let the crisp rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the juices to thicken.
