Ingredients:

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith Apples
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup cold, cubed unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour. Toss gently until every slice is evenly coated in the spice mixture.
  2. Pour the apple mixture into a 9x9 inch baking dish, spreading the apples evenly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Add the cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or fingertips to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with a few pea-sized chunks remaining.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the apples without pressing down.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40–45 minutes, or until fruit juices bubble up the sides and the topping is deep mahogany-gold.
  7. Let the crisp rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the juices to thicken.
